A motorcycle phone holder has to suit the bike, the phone and the mounting position. Before choosing one, check your phone manufacturer’s advice about motorcycle use, then work through the complete assembly: base, arm, holder or case, and any specified accessories.
A phone that fits the cradle is only one part of that check. The base must fit the actual mounting point, the screen must clear the controls, and the assembled mount must follow its manufacturer’s instructions. On a Harley with changed bars or extra cockpit accessories, measure what is on the bike now.
Read the phone manufacturer’s vibration advice first
Apple warns that motorcycle vibration can affect iPhone cameras, including optical image stabilisation and closed-loop autofocus systems. It specifically recommends against attaching an iPhone to motorcycles with high-power or high-volume engines because of the vibrations they generate.
Apple discusses dampening mounts for lower-vibration applications, but that does not turn a dampener into approval for every motorcycle. If you ride a Harley, read that guidance before deciding to mount an iPhone. Keeping the phone off the handlebars and using a suitable dedicated navigation device may better suit your requirements.
For other phones, check the manufacturer’s advice for the exact model. A mount holding the phone securely and a camera tolerating vibration are separate questions. Neither a firm grip nor a vibration accessory guarantees that a phone cannot be damaged.
Match the mounting base to your motorcycle
Choose the base only after checking where it can attach. For a handlebar mount, measure the diameter at the proposed clamp location. Confirm the mount’s supported dimensions, required spacers and the amount of straight, unobstructed bar it needs.
Look beyond the measurement. Switchgear, wiring, brake lines, a fairing or a screen may limit the available position. A mount that fits the bar on paper can still put the phone in the wrong place once the whole assembly is fitted.
A mirror or another motorcycle-specific mounting option may suit a different layout, but each has its own fitment requirements. Do not assume an accessory will fit because the motorcycle appears in a product photo. Check the exact hardware and installation instructions.
Quad Lock’s motorcycle support guide covers its mounting options and accessories. Use the relevant product instructions to identify compatible parts rather than mixing pieces because their connectors look similar.
Check the phone, case and locking system together
Write down the full phone model, including size variants such as Plus or Pro Max where applicable. For a case-based system, verify that the case is made for that phone and works with the intended motorcycle mount.
If you prefer an adjustable cradle, compare its stated width, height and depth limits with the phone inside its everyday case. Check where the retaining arms land: they should not press a side button, block the charging socket or prevent the holder from closing as instructed.
Adhesive adaptors need their own compatibility check. Read the manufacturer’s requirements for the case material, surface preparation and curing time. “Universal” does not mean an adhesive will bond reliably to every finish or flexible case.
Try the locking and release action while parked. You should be able to confirm that the phone is fully seated without guessing. Fit any manufacturer-specified retaining parts; do not omit them because the holder feels secure during a quick test.
Plan vibration accessories, charging and rain protection
If your chosen system specifies a vibration accessory, confirm its compatibility and installation order. Quad Lock’s dampener guidance explains how its accessory fits into supported assemblies. Follow those instructions and the phone manufacturer’s advice together.
Decide whether charging is needed for your normal trips. If it is, check the phone, charger, case and power connection as a complete system. A wireless charging head or USB accessory may require extra hardware, and a charging socket on the motorcycle does not establish compatibility by itself.
For wired charging, plan a cable route that clears steering movement, controls, hot surfaces and moving parts. Use the charger’s specified electrical connection. Ask for installation help if the setup requires wiring you are not equipped to carry out.
Check weather protection component by component. The phone, case, holder and charging connection can have different limitations. A cover should be specified for the phone and case combination; do not treat a general water-resistance statement as a guarantee for the complete setup.
Fit and check the mount before riding
-
Read the instructions and lay out the complete kit, including spacers, fasteners and retaining parts.
-
Fit the base and arm at the approved mounting point, following the stated fastening method and torque where supplied.
-
Install the phone or case and confirm the locking mechanism engages fully.
-
With the motorcycle stationary and secure, check clearance through the full steering movement. Confirm the assembly and cable do not interfere with controls, instruments or your view.
-
Set the route and screen orientation before departure. Recheck the attachment as directed by the manufacturer and stop safely before making adjustments.
Phone-use rules depend on your licence and location. Check the current road authority guidance that applies to you before using a mounted phone. Fitting a holder does not establish that every phone function is permitted.
Motorcycle phone holder questions
Can I use a car phone holder on a motorcycle?
Choose a holder expressly specified by its manufacturer for the intended motorcycle use and mounting point. A car accessory’s attachment method does not establish that it is suitable for a bike.
Will a vibration dampener prevent camera damage?
Do not treat it as a guarantee. Follow the phone maker’s restrictions as well as the mount maker’s instructions. Apple’s advice against mounting an iPhone on high-power or high-volume motorcycles still needs to be considered.
What details should I have ready when buying?
Bring the motorcycle model and year, current bar measurement or proposed mounting-point details, full phone model and case information. A clear photo of the cockpit can help explain clearance questions.
